Exhibits

The museum's permanent collections focus on the history of Elmore County Black families, churches, schools and organizations.

Painting by Wetumpka native Steve Mitchell, which depict scenes from life in Wetumpka, are on permanent display as well as paintings donated by artist Columbus Cook, also a native of Wetumpka. Histories of Elmore County Training and W. B. Doby High Schools are also featured.

Arbor Day ceremonies have honored two (2) museum volunteers -            Mrs. Martha B. Jones (1998) and Mrs. Eloyse Jones (2005). Both ladies were educators in the Elmore County School system and dedicated museum volunteers and supporters.

In 1989 the museum hosted civil rights activist Mrs. Virginia Durr who spoke on her book Inside the Magic Circle and discussed the work she and her husband did in the civil rights movement.

Several plaques are on display that recognize the work and contributions of country residents. Among them are plaque listing the names of outstanding Elmore County Black community leaders (sponsored by the Wise Family in honor and memory of their mother, Mrs. Lucile Wise) and the James Mack Community Involvement plaque that recognizes adult and youth community service award recipients.
